The beach in the previous view is just to the right in this picture. It was created over
time by the water crashing through the Appomattox River's most powerful rapid, in the
center, then swirling around to the right where it slows down and deposits the sand for
the beach.
     The rapids, rock out crops, and beach here are unique and spectacular. Canoeists
shooting the rapids aim their boats for the prominent rock in the fore ground. Hence the
name - Target Rock.
